It&#8217;s a great time to learn about all the things in your house, yard, and medicine cabinet that could be harmful to your pets. Because, honestly, there are a lot of them, and they&#8217;re often right out in the open.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Symptoms of Poisoning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognizing pet poisoning can be challenging, as symptoms may be immediate or delayed. If your pet exhibits any of the following signs of illness, it could be a sign of poisoning: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bloody stool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting and diarrhea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of appetite<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sensitivity to light<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restlessness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rapid heart rate  or difficulty breathing. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are available to see and treat pets requiring urgent care. The following represent the most common medications eaten by pets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ibuprofen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Naproxen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antidepressants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ADHD medication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cold medication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Herbal supplements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heart medications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Human Food<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pets are not only curious, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegentlevetdvm.com\/blog\/holiday-hazards-for-pets-pancreatitis-in-dogs-and-festive-foods\/\">they\u2019re hungry<\/a> most of the time to boot. Always keep cabinet doors closed, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegentlevetdvm.com\/blog\/the-ultimate-pet-safe-thanksgiving\/\">be sure that your pet cannot access<\/a> any of the following ingredients on tables or countertops:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chocolate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alcohol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Xylitol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Caffeine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Macadamia nuts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grapes or raisins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garlic, onions, chives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chemicals and Cleaning Products<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your kitchen is secured, take a look around the office, garage, and garden shed for any of these common chemicals known to cause problems in pets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Paint or paint thinner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Various cleaning products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rodenticides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insecticides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pesticides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antifreeze<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Toxic Plants &amp; Flowers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chewing pets? Toxic plants are a danger. This list is not complete.
